About Sarah
Sarah Birger
Certified Yoga Therapist
As a remodeling contractor in my mid-50s, my work is physically demanding and often requires me to contort into odd positions in less than ideal spaces. Since working with Sarah, I have become so much more flexible and strong with an awareness of moving from my central core. I often hear Sarah's coaching in my head as I prepare for a task on the job because her teaching provides real benefit both on and off the yoga mat
Sarah offers imaginative and clear instruction in a uniquely authentic voice. Quick to adapt and integrative in her approach, she has many tools in her toolkit, as well as a deep commitment to being a discerning listener and a compassionate witness.
Deeply curious, Sarah is a life-long learner and empathic connector who has been variously described as “an inspiring instructor” who “radiates kindness, not ego” and has “the vibe of a female Mr. Rogers.”
Certified by the International Association of Yoga Therapists in 2017, Sarah has been practicing tai chi chuan since 2004 and yoga since 1994. In the intervening 25 years, she has focused on deepening her knowledge and developing her skills to support others through the lens of her top five values: JOY. GRATITUDE. EDUCATION. SERVICE. SPIRITUAL INQUIRY.
Sarah has been blessed to learn directly from many skilled teachers: Beryl Bender Birch, Leeann Carey, Francesco Garripoli, Leslie Howard, Dr. Sat Dharam Kaur, Dr. Shanti Shanti Kaur Khalsa, Nirvair Singh Khalsa, Doug Keller, Dr. Paul Lam, Dr. Judith Hanson Lasater, Dr. Gabor Mate, Patrick McKeown, Tom Myers, Divo Mueller and Dr. Robert Schleip, Leila Stuart, and Troyce Thome. She considers one of her dearest mentors to be Robin Rothenberg of Essential Yoga Therapy. Sarah helped to edit Robin's groundbreaking book: Restoring Prana. A Therapeutic Guide to Pranayama and Healing Through the Breath for Yoga Therapists, Yoga Teachers, and Healthcare Practitioners (2019).
What her Clients Say
Sarah has helped me identify joints, tendons, internal parts, breathing, and their functions. I have become aware of how my body reacts to improper use and how to correct the harm done. One very important “cure” Sarah offered to me was how to massage the area at my jaw joint in front of my ears to stop excruciating pain caused from clinching my jaw because of tension. Bless her!!!

I learned to use different breathing techniques to get through difficult moments and to help get to sleep. My posture has improved, both sitting and standing. In her special kind way, Sarah has taught me to pay attention to my body.

Before coming to Sarah for some yoga therapy, I had been having some soreness and even occasional temporary lameness in my hips. After coming to see Sarah for awhile, this condition gradually left. I found Sarah to be a kind, gentle person with a lot of knowledge and expertise. She taught me the correct way to breathe when doing the exercises and how to isolate the appropriate muscles. Each time I left the sessions, she would give me clear and cute drawings of the exercises so that I would remember how to do them at home!
